I have always been interested in fashion and dressing up for as long as I can remember. When I was little, I always made it a point to “match” everything, and even wore dresses everyday to school for my entire 2nd grade school year. This interest has stuck with me to the present day and has grown into something that I have become very passionate about. I plan to take this passion and turn it into a career. I attend FIDM LA as a Fashion Design major. Coming from a small town and living with a small budget, I have to be creative in achieving the kind of style I like. This blog is a side project that shows that fashion can be affordable by posting my favorite outfits, DIY sewing projects, and documents my journey at FIDM.

A is for Accessories

I've been getting into the whole idea of incorporating more accessories into my everyday looks lately. I'm beginning to realize that jewelry, bags, and shoes are the things that can take a basic outfit that a hundred other people can wear and make them into an outfit that is unique and personalized to fit your own style. Here are a few accessories I have purchased in the past few weeks that are basic enough to be worn with a variety of outfits, but each exemplifies a part of my personal style.

I wore the necklace today with a printed blouse. This purchase was actually inspired by Kelly of The Glamourai, since her jewelry is somewhat similar to this.

Currently, I am working on a few more D.I.Y projects that include a few accessories as well(with tutorials of course!), which I hope to have up soon.

    Do the top designers really have the best stuff even for the prices? I mean I know that they mostly use the highest quality materials and that makes a big difference - but if money were no object would you be spending a lot less time hunting for great looking stuff at a bargain when you could just waltz to any department store, etc. and drop 10x or more in money for more of what you're looking for without all the improvising involved due to budgets?

    Sometimes the prices for designer items are actually worth it. The investment pieces I mentioned in the other comment are these such things. Higher quality means it will last a lot longer, and you will eventually get your money's worth. If I had a lot of cash to blow on clothes, I wouldn't just buy designer things. I think paying a lot of money for things you are only going to wear a few times is ridiculous so I would mix high designers with low and only splurge on things like coats, bags, boots, etc...those that I know I will continue to use year after year.
